It was the latest step in a rally that began more than two weeks ago, when the company reported staggering sales and profits for the holiday quarter.

Apple shares close at new all-time high
Apple shares passed $ 500 for the first time Monday as the tech giant continues to bask in the afterglow is its stunning first-quarter earnings report. Shares in the Cupertino tech behemoth closed at an all-time high for the company, $ 502.60, up $ 9.18, or 1.86 percent, for the day.
Apple shares have soared nearly 20 percent since last month’s announcement that reported $ 46.3 billion in quarterly revenue, with a $ 13 billion profit.
The $ 500 barrier represents another milestone along Apple’s staggering stock growth over the past decade: It’s up more than 4,000 percent from early 2002, when Apple shares were a measly $ 10; up 500 percent over the past five years; and up 40 percent in the past year.
